Charles Edward Brame lost his parents at a very early age and was raised by his elder sister in or near Montgomery, AL. He was a precocious boy and his family managed to send him for several years to a school in New Jersey which later became Princeton University. He was not able to finish his last year, but records seem to indicate that he was later given an honorary degree. Charles Edward and Mary Francis dedicated their lives to teaching and records show that they were teachers and administrators of a number of finishing schools (primarily for girls) in western Alabama and eastern Mississipi. I have also seen info that indicates he taught in Louisiana but I have not been able to determine when or where. While he was living in Alabama, he was ordained as a Baptist minister.
Mary Frances Webb Brame passed away unexpectedly 4 OCT 1875 in Oktibbeha Co., MS, and is buried at Wake Forest Baptist Church west of the community of Sturgis.
After Mary Frances passed away, Charles Edward Brame moved his family to Kemper Co., MS, where 21 OCT 1877 he married Emily Hand, daughter of Dr. T. J. and Mary A. Hand. Charles E. and Emily had one son, Milton Hand Brame. In Kemper Co., Rev. Brame preached at local Baptist churches, taught in his own school at Klondike, MS, crossroads, and participated in some business activities.
