D. B. Fox Sawmill
D. B. Fox Sawmill
I am aware of two D. B. Fox sawmills that existed in Jones Co. One was down by the railroad track in front of the Fox home out from Ovett. The other was over at Alene next to the track between Hattiesburg and Laurel. There was a long hill there that slowed the northbound freight trains down. I have been told that the hobos would utilize that slowdown to get on and off the trains, a problem the sawmill personnel had to contend with.
I would guess the picture above is of the mill out from Ovett. The man in the middle in the white shirt is my grandfather, D. B. Fox.
